Redmen notch first dual wins of season

WILLARD — The Belle­vue Red­men recorded two wins in dual matches Tues­day, their first in head-to-head com­pe­ti­tion this sea­son, top­ping Port Clin­ton and Mohawk in a quad match at Willard High School. Shelby and Willard also com­peted in the match.

Belle­vue han­dled the Port Clin­ton Red­skins, 47–18, for one of its two wins.

Port Clin­ton left seven of the 14 weight classes empty in its dual against Belle­vue, which matched Port Clin­ton to com­bine for three dou­ble forfeits.

Chris Har­ris, Bran­don Veliz and Grant Moyer recorded pins Tues­day for the Red­men against Port Clinton.

Bellevue’s Zack Miller notched a tech­ni­cal fall on the Red­skins’ Aaron Smith.

Port Clinton’s Rob­bie Peter­son tal­lied a pin against Ryan Veliz.

The Red­men won by seven against the Mohawk War­riors, 35–28.

That match saw three more dou­ble for­feits, while Belle­vue out­gained Mohawk 12–6 in three other weight classes that were forfeited.

Veliz, Miller and Alex Elswick each earned pins against Mohawk. Moyer reg­is­tered a tech­ni­cal fall against Arin Mullins.

Bellevue’s Jared Hoy and Ethan Hart­ley were eached pinned in their two matches Tuesday.

“I thought we looked more aggres­sive than some of the ear­lier duals this year,” Belle­vue coach Paul Zol­man said. “We had solid efforts from Zack Miller and Grant Moyer, both going 2–0 on the night.

“I’m hop­ing that we are turn­ing a cor­ner as a team head­ing into tour­na­ment time.”

Belle­vue sits just over two weeks away from the North­ern Ohio League tour­na­ment, which the Red­men will host on Sat­ur­day, Feb. 2.

In the mean­time, Belle­vue will com­pete at the Wooster Invi­ta­tional on Saturday.
