Clyde ends season with loss to Hathaway Brown in Final 4
From staff reports
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Clyde Lady Fliers were handed their first and only loss of the 2012–13 season Thursday.
Clyde ended its season with a 57–38 defeat against the Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown Lady Blazers in a Division II girls basketball state semifinal at the Jerome Schottenstein Center on the campus of The Ohio State University in Columbus.
Clyde’s appearance Thursday in the state semifinal was its second in three years. Neither trip to state has resulted in a state title game berth, however.
The Lady Fliers (27–1), the No. 1 team in the final Associated Press poll, weren’t much of a match against Hathaway Brown (23–6), the four-time defending state champion in Division II.
Hathaway Brown led 14–7 after the first quarter and 34–21 at halftime. Clyde closed its deficit to 10 by the end of the third quarter, 41–31.
As the Lady Fliers finished the third on an 8–0 run, Hathaway Brown began the fourth quarter on an 8–0 run of its own.
The Lady Blazers pushed their lead to a game-high 21 inside two minutes left in regulation.
Clyde junior Amanda Cahill had 16 points, nine rebounds and four blocks, while junior teammate Hannah Wadsworth had 10 points.
Hathaway Brown had four players score double figures, led by Nia Marshall with 14.
