PEKIN, Ill. — Eve­lyn Mae Hamil­ton Melton, 88, of Pekin, Ill., passed away on Sun­day, Aug. 5, 2012, at Tim­ber­creek Health Care Cen­ter in Pekin.
Born in West­er­ville, Ohio, on Aug. 24, 1923, to C. Paul and Frances Mor­gan Jones, she mar­ried Fred J. Melton, in Pekin, on Nov. 15, 2002; he sur­vives.
Also sur­viv­ing are her chil­dren, John Hamil­ton, of East Wind­sor, N.J., Martha Hamil­ton, of Cleve­land, Janet Nunan, of Peo­ria, Ill., Patri­cia Von­Boeck­man, of Spring Lake, Ill., and Mark Melton, of Cocoa, Fla.; grand­chil­dren, Justin Hamil­ton, of Miami Beach, Fla., Lind­sey Hamil­ton, of Lang­horne, Pa., Jen­nifer Smith, of Peo­ria, Scott Nunan, of Meta­mora, and Dylan Von­Boeck­man, of Spring Lake; and sev­eral nieces and nephews.
Her par­ents; step-mother, Grace Burke Jones; sis­ter, Phyl­lis Howe; and brother-in-law, Elton “Bud” Howe Jr., pre­ceded her in death.
She grew up in Colum­bus and Cleve­land and grad­u­ated from Colum­bus North High School. At var­i­ous points in her life, she lived in Colum­bus, West­er­ville, Cleve­land, and Belle­vue, Ohio, as well as Florida, Mary­land and Cal­i­for­nia. Her many friends and pro­fes­sional asso­ciates include cur­rent and for­mer employ­ees of Cleve­land State University’s Col­lege of Lib­eral Arts and Social Sci­ences, and Jones, Day, Reavis and Pogue, Attor­neys at Law.
A grave­side ser­vice will be held on Fri­day, Aug. 10, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at Glen­dale Memo­r­ial Gar­dens, in Pekin.
