PEKIN, Ill. — Evelyn Mae Hamilton Melton, 88, of Pekin, Ill., passed away on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, at Timbercreek Health Care Center in Pekin.
Born in Westerville, Ohio, on Aug. 24, 1923, to C. Paul and Frances Morgan Jones, she married Fred J. Melton, in Pekin, on Nov. 15, 2002; he survives.
Also surviving are her children, John Hamilton, of East Windsor, N.J., Martha Hamilton, of Cleveland, Janet Nunan, of Peoria, Ill., Patricia VonBoeckman, of Spring Lake, Ill., and Mark Melton, of Cocoa, Fla.; grandchildren, Justin Hamilton, of Miami Beach, Fla., Lindsey Hamilton, of Langhorne, Pa., Jennifer Smith, of Peoria, Scott Nunan, of Metamora, and Dylan VonBoeckman, of Spring Lake; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents; step-mother, Grace Burke Jones; sister, Phyllis Howe; and brother-in-law, Elton “Bud” Howe Jr., preceded her in death.
She grew up in Columbus and Cleveland and graduated from Columbus North High School. At various points in her life, she lived in Columbus, Westerville, Cleveland, and Bellevue, Ohio, as well as Florida, Maryland and California. Her many friends and professional associates include current and former employees of Cleveland State University’s College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, and Jones, Day, Reavis and Pogue, Attorneys at Law.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, Aug. 10, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at Glendale Memorial Gardens, in Pekin.

The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co., working with Abts Mortuary, Pekin, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.
