Crash injures three

Belle­vue, Florida dri­vers
injured in Ohio 99 crach

Gro­ton Town­ship — The Ohio State High­way Patrol is cur­rently inves­ti­gat­ing an injury motor vehi­cle crash which occurred on Tues­day, June 21, at 12:25 p.m. The crash occurred on Ohio 99 at the inter­sec­tion of Har­ris Road, in Erie County.
Don­ald E. Bischoff, 52, of Belle­vue, was dri­ving a 2003 Peter­bilt tractor-trailer south­bound on State Route 99. He was injured in the crash and was extri­cated from the vehi­cle by mechan­i­cal means and was taken from the scene by air ambu­lance to the Uni­ver­sity of Toledo Med­ical Cen­ter in Toledo.
The other vehi­cle was oper­ated by Charles E. Sweet Jr., 77, of Long­boat Key, Fla., who was dri­ving a 2010 Chrysler Town and Coun­try van north­bound on State Route 99. He was also injured and taken to Fire­lands Regional Med­ical Cen­ter in San­dusky by North Cen­tral EMS. A pas­sen­ger in the vehi­cle, Ann G. Sweet, 76, also of Long­boat Key, was also injured as a result of the crash and was taken from the scene by air ambu­lance to St. Vincent’s Med­ical Cen­ter in Toledo.
Accord­ing to offi­cers from San­dusky Post of the Ohio High­way Patrol, Bischoff was dri­ving south­bound on State Route 99 approach­ing Har­ris Road. Sweet was on Har­ris Road and attempted to turn north onto Ohio 99, not notic­ing the semi until enter­ing the inter­sec­tion. Bischoff attempted to avoid a col­li­sion, but still struck Sweet before he trav­eled off the right side of the road­way and over­turned.
The Ohio State High­way patrol was assisted at the scene by the Erie County Sheriff’s Depart­ment, Gro­ton Town­ship Fire, North Cen­tral EMS, Ohio Depart­ment of Trans­porta­tion, Erie County EMA and Wilson’s Tow­ing. The crash remains under investigation.
