Crash injures three
Bellevue, Florida drivers
injured in Ohio 99 crach
Groton Township — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating an injury motor vehicle crash which occurred on Tuesday, June 21, at 12:25 p.m. The crash occurred on Ohio 99 at the intersection of Harris Road, in Erie County.
Donald E. Bischoff, 52, of Bellevue, was driving a 2003 Peterbilt tractor-trailer southbound on State Route 99. He was injured in the crash and was extricated from the vehicle by mechanical means and was taken from the scene by air ambulance to the University of Toledo Medical Center in Toledo.
The other vehicle was operated by Charles E. Sweet Jr., 77, of Longboat Key, Fla., who was driving a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country van northbound on State Route 99. He was also injured and taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky by North Central EMS. A passenger in the vehicle, Ann G. Sweet, 76, also of Longboat Key, was also injured as a result of the crash and was taken from the scene by air ambulance to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Toledo.
According to officers from Sandusky Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, Bischoff was driving southbound on State Route 99 approaching Harris Road. Sweet was on Harris Road and attempted to turn north onto Ohio 99, not noticing the semi until entering the intersection. Bischoff attempted to avoid a collision, but still struck Sweet before he traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned.
The Ohio State Highway patrol was assisted at the scene by the Erie County Sheriff’s Department, Groton Township Fire, North Central EMS, Ohio Department of Transportation, Erie County EMA and Wilson’s Towing. The crash remains under investigation.
